Presented by Humber College and the Book and Periodical Council
in association with Authors at Harbourfront Centre
Book Summit 2012 – Thursday, June 21, 2012 – Harbourfront Centre – Toronto
We now have more choice than ever in what we read. New genres, formats, platforms and publishing opportunities mean there is now an abundance of content to explore, but how exactly do readers make their choices?
Book Summit 2012 will examine ways to connect with your audience and encourage sales. We will look at new models within all sectors of the book industry and be guided by panels of experts through the practicalities and creative considerations of reader engagement.
Join writers, publishing professionals, editors, librarians, educators, booksellers, literary agents, policy makers, publishing students and an excellent slate of speakers as we explore the persuasive factors that influence what readers discover in the age of abundance.
Book Summit Keynote Speaker
Terry O'Reilly Terry O'Reilly began his career as a copywriter for some of Canada’s top creative ad agencies. In 1990, he co-founded audio production company Pirate Radio & Television, which now has eight recording studios in Toronto and New York City.
When O'Reilly isn't creating advertising, he’s talking about it, first as the host of radio series “The Age of Persuasion,” which has aired on CBC, Sirius Satellite and WBEZ Chicago. Starting this year, he is chronicling the ongoing changes in the advertising industry with his new radio series "Under the Influence."
The Age of Persuasion: How Marketing Ate Our Culture, O'Reilly's best-selling book, was published by Knopf Canada in 2009. He has held a spot in the American Marketing Association's Marketing Hall of Legends since 2008, and has recently received the advertising industry's Les Usherwood and Fritz Speiss Lifetime Achievement Awards.
O’Reilly’s reflections on the art of attracting readers will kick off a day of stimulating discussion about new ways to stand out from the crowd.
